Interview
Eco friendly concept is not new to India
Advanced Enzyme Technologies is one of the important players
in Indian and global market that provide eco friendly enzymes.
C L Rathi, managing director of Advanced Enzyme Technologies analyses more in
talks with Sachin Jagdale
How
will the use of eco friendly enzymes help different industries to cut down processing
and manufacturing costs?
Enzymes are very target specific and they operate on mild
temperature and pH conditions. This helps you to save tremendous energy and
treatment cost. Beside the cost advantage, with role of enzymes you get improved
and desired quality which in turn reduces number of further steps.
What are the challenges in preparing eco-friendly enzymes?
It is a complex science of biotech and mastering each enzyme
for production is very challenging.
What is the current percentage of application of eco-friendly
enzymes in India?
Indian enzyme market is barely two percent of world market,
although our population is close to 16 percent of world's population. US alone
accounts for 35 percent of global enzyme market.
How will the use of enzymes reduce the toxicity/side effects
of drugs?
All the drugs actions are either to suppress or to increase
some or the other enzyme action in the body. The whole body functions are executed
using enzymes only. So every drug has direct/indirect action on our body enzyme.
But our understanding of body enzymes is quite limited and hence we are not
using as many enzymes as we should. Our company is focusing on increasing this
understanding to help mankind to live more healthy life.
From the environmental and economic point of view, what
kind of revolution you would expect in India with the use of eco-friendly enzymes?
Eco-friendly concept is not new to India. Our Vedic traditions
have highlighted the beneficial benefits of being eco-friendly /eco-safe. Thus
various Vedas are demonstrated aptly by many sages. In fact, we are the only
people on this planet who worship every thing which is a part of this nature.
The recent race and industrial revolution unfortunately got blinded and that's
why the role of enzymes has become more important.
What are the new products in the pipeline?
We are planning to introduce fungal lactase for lactose intolerance.
More than 80 percent people suffer from lactose intolerance, without being aware
of it. When they drink milk, they get high amount of gas, and they don't consult
doctor. We are also going to offer lactase enzyme to dairy product producers
so that they can offer lactose free dairy products like yoghurt, shrikhand etc
so that indigestion and gas troubles can be avoided. We are also planning to
launch complete eco friendly solutions to paper producers who recycle from waste
paper.
