‘Activated recombinant factor VII acts like a targeted missile’
Professor Uri Martinowitz, the head of National Haemophilia Center, Israel, is the only ‘hematotraumatologist’ in the world who has introduced combined treatment of activated recombinant Factor VII with fibrin glue for the treatment of exsanguinating trauma victims and surgical patients, a method that has saved many lives. He developed new treatment modalities like the adjusted-dose continuous infusion of coagulation products and a special fibrin glue formulation; that improved the safety and reduced the cost of treating patients with bleeding disorders. Dr Martinowitz, the Chief Advisor to the Israeli defense forces in the field of hemorrhage control, and he is a member of the Israeli defense force trauma advisory board. He has acted as a consultant and received research support and honoraria from Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals. Dr Martinowitz speaks to Sapna Dogra about NovoSeven, its development and advantages.
