Legislation likely to commercialise biotech discoveries
The Central government plans to come out with a legislation to pave the way for commercialisation of technologies discovery by Indian universities and research institutions to create a strong domestic biotech industry.

Right acquisition eludes Sami Labs despite scouting US, Europe, India
The right takeover candidate is yet to meet the Rs 326 crore Sami Labs’ approval, despite a whirlwind scouting around for two-and-a-half months. The company had been in an active hunt for a BT acquisition, worth about Rs 100 crore, in Europe, the US and India.

N Prasad becomes Executive Chairman of Matrix Labs
Matrix Laboratories Ltd has announced a few changes in the executive management structure recently. The changes were aimed at pursuing the new growth strategies. As part of these changes, N Prasad, hitherto the Chairman & Chief Executive Officer will assume the Executive Chairman position to focus more on strategic issues.

Indo-Japanese conference on advances in research and technology
The first Indo-Japanese international conference, being jointly organized by Shri B V Patel Education Trust and PERD Centre, SciTech Centre, The Nagai Foundation, Japan, and the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Technology of Japan, is being held in November 26 to 29, 2005 at Grand Hyatt Mumbai.

The Indian Pharma-ceutical Association, Bengal Branch has invited recommendations for Acharya P C Ray Award 2005. IPA Bengal Branch gives annually gold medal on the occasion of celebration of National Pharmacy Week during 3rd week of November of each year to perpetuate the memory of Acharya P C Ray, the pioneer designer of pharmaceutical industry in our country since 1962.

CSIR gets US patent for green mussel extract to treat osteoporosis
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has received US patent for a process used for extracting mussel hudrolysate from Indian green mussel to be used as a drug for inhibition of osteoclast formation.

J B Chemicals’ Doktor Mom brand was awarded Superbrand 2005 status in Russia. It was awarded on the basis of the result of an independent council, which consists of the leading public and business figures in marketing, business analytics, advertising and design.

Dr V Mohan receives Dr B C Roy National Award
Dr V Mohan, president and director, Madras Diabetes Research Centre, Chennai was conferred the Dr B C Roy National Award for the year 2003-2004 by the Medical Council of India. Dr Mohan received the award from president of India Dr A P J Abdul Kalam at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
