EPP News Bureau - New Delhi

Dr R A Mashelkar, director general, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), has been elected Foreign Associate of US National Academy of Sciences at its General Meeting held recently in recognition of his distinguished and continuing achievements in original research in polymer science and engineering.

Election to the Academy is considered as one of the highest honours that can be accorded to any scientist or engineer. The Academy, established in 1863, has so far elected only seven Indians as Foreign Associates. The Academy has 2000 members and 360 foreign associates of whom 190 have won Nobel Prize.
