Colorcon sets up Tablet Design Centre in Goa

Balakrishnan Nair - Mumbai

Colorcon, a global developer, manufacturer and supplier of specialty chemicals and excipients for the pharmaceutical industry, has set up a Tablet Design Centre (TDC) in Goa to facilitate research and design of distinctive dosage forms.

Speaking to Express Pharma Pulse, Rick Kettinger, managing director, Brand Enhancement Services, Colorcon, said, ‘‘In order to meet the diverse requirements of international customers, we have positioned our business offices, manufacturing facilities and technical service laboratories in strategic locations across the globe. The TDC in India, located close to our manufacturing facility in Goa, is an integral part of Brand Enhancement System for Tablets (BEST).”

BEST is a unique service supporting new product development and brand management of existing products.’’

The company has set up similar TDCs in the US and the UK. Future sites for TDC include China and Japan. ‘‘Since time-to-market influences success to a great extent, we help our customers complete their projects — from Product concept to Prototype design in TDC through BEST — all in reduced time frames,’’ he added.

‘‘In our laboratories and on site at customer’ facilities, we deliver solutions to our customers’ most critical product development needs. Our BEST service assists in designing a distinctive dosage formulation in the TDC and our technical services departments assist with actual tablet and capsule formulation, coating formulation development, process optimisation, scale-up support, amongst others,’’ he elaborated further.

Colorcon provides a wide range of complete film-coatings systems and modified-release technologies and excipients. ‘‘Our best-of-class products are complemented by our value-added services, including global technical assistance and regulatory information services, training seminars, and independent research support. Similarly TDCs are aimed at helping the Pharmaceutical Marketer decide the final design and trade dress of tablet formulation to ensure differentiation in a crowded market place.’’
