Ocimum acquires German genomic company

EPP News Bureau - Hyderabad

Ocimum Biosolutions has acquired the genomic diagnosis business of Germany’s E33m MWG for an undisclosed sum. Following the acquisition, the Hyderabad-based life science R&D enabling company introduced MWG’s DNA microarray product, OciChips T. Ocimum had signed the letter of intent for acquiring MWG’s product line in February this year. As per the deal, Ocimum will take over MWG’s microarray know-how, expertise and assets, including inventory and stock.

MWG Biotech’s former Genomic Diagnosis employees are not a part of the transaction. Ocimum would gain access to MWG’s 300 customers of the microarray product. MWG has hived off its genomic diagnosis business as a part of a recast plan. Ocimum Biosolutions is engaged in bioinformatics, laboratory information management system, genomics, microarrays and custom contract research services. Ocimum will continue with its operations in Germany and service the clients of MWG.
