Ocimum acquires German genomic company

Ocimum Biosolutions has acquired the genomic diagnosis business of Germanys
E33m MWG for an undisclosed sum. Following the acquisition, the Hyderabad-based
life science R&D enabling company introduced MWGs DNA microarray product,
OciChips T. Ocimum had signed the letter of intent for acquiring MWGs
product line in February this year. As per the deal, Ocimum will take over MWGs
microarray know-how, expertise and assets, including inventory and stock.
MWG Biotechs former Genomic Diagnosis employees are not a part of the
transaction. Ocimum would gain access to MWGs 300 customers of the microarray
product. MWG has hived off its genomic diagnosis business as a part of a recast
plan. Ocimum Biosolutions is engaged in bioinformatics, laboratory information
management system, genomics, microarrays and custom contract research services.
Ocimum will continue with its operations in Germany and service the clients
of MWG.
