EPP News Bureau - Mumbai

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Ltd (GSKCH) has reported an increase of 35.2 per cent in its profit after tax at Rs 26.4 crore for the first quarter ended March 31, 2005 as compared to Rs 19.5 crore in the same period last year. Sales during the quarter under review grew by 7.1 per cent at Rs 254.3 crore, up from Rs 237.3 crore last year.

Profit before tax at Rs 37.6 crore was up 24.9% over Rs 30 crore in Q1 2004. ‘‘Our objective in 2005 is to grow top line and bottom line faster than we did last year. Our in-house cost reduction programme is beginning to yield returns and we look forward to re-investing these monies to build our brands,’’ GSKCH managing director Nick Massey said in a statement.
