IPA, Bilcare sign MoU for packaging

EPP News Bureau - Mumbai

The Indian Pharmaceu-tical Association (IPA) and Bilcare has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote innovations in packaging, informed a press release.

The MoU would focus on new approaches in product positioning - globally integrated, locally tailored.

The roll of packaging in pharmaceuticals has taken an incremental leap forward in terms of its critical importance as an integral part of the product. The healthy growth in the global pharmaceuticals sector has been accompanied by the increasing importance assigned to safe and efficacious packaging.

It also signifies the emergence of packaging as the fifth ‘‘P’’ of pharmaceutical marketing strategy, after product, price, place and promotion.

The outcome of a perfect blend of the drug is packaging through scientific packaging research. The design should culminate into an optimally best, viable and cost effective packaging system, assuring the safety, efficacy and stability of the drug along with anti counterfeiting solutions.

Various awards would also be given away. These include:

  • Best packaging in solid dosage form
  • Best packaging in liquid dosage form
  • Best packaging in any other dosage form

According to the release, the process of application will start from May 2005 and the awards will be given away during the IPA convocation in September 2005.
