Matrix appoints chief scientific officer

Matrix Laboratories Ltd has announced the appointment of Dr B Gopalan as chief scientific officer (CSO). A doctorate in synthetic organic chemistry from University of Madras, Dr Gopalan brings with him 30 years of rich experience in R&D to the company. Dr Gopalan has 25 worldwide patents and several publications to his credit, informed a release.

Dr Gopalan has done two years of post-doctoral work at Harvard University with Professor E J Corey (Nobel Laureate). In the US, he worked with Syntex Research, California and Bristol Meyers Squibb. In India, he was associated Boots Pharma, Sun Pharma, Glaxo and Merck. Before joining the company, Dr Gopalan was associated with Glenmark Pharmaceuticals as senior vice president (Chemical Research), the release said. It added, Dr Gopalan’s appointment emphasises the company’s commitment to building a strong scientific team. His rich experience in R&D will enhance the scientific capabilities and foster the innovation efforts of the company.
