Biotech Strategy envisages measures to raise investments
The National Biotech Strategy proposes a series of initiatives to
peg up investment in the sector and to strengthen human resources
with an objective of achieving a turnover of $5 billion and creation
of one billion jobs by 2010.

throws spanner into IIScs scheme on rifampicin, INH against
malaria
The Bangalore based Indian Institute of Science (IISc) effort to
use rifampicin and INH (isoniazid), the drugs used in tuberculosis,
for fighting malaria caused by chloroquin-resistant Plasmodium falciparum
in direct human clinical trials received a set back as the Indian
Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has asked them to do trials in
primates first.
