Galpha Labs to set up unit in Baddi

Balakrishnan Nair - Mumbai

City-based Galpha Laboratories Ltd plans to set up a new unit at Baddi, Himachal Pradesh for manufacturing liquids, capsules, tablets and with separate cephalosporin injectables set up. The project spread over 3.5 acres has been estimated to cost around Rs 20 crores. “The liquid line unit shall be operational from May this year, where as the tablets/ capsules and cephalosporin injectable manufacturing block shall begin manufacturing from July and October respectively,”said J P N Singh, Director, Galpha Laboratories Ltd.

The Himachal Pradesh Government’s incentives and tax free zone (excise and sales) for industrial units, has encouraged Galpha to set up this multi- crore plant at Baddi. This new plant will be able to produce 10,000 litres of liquid per day along with 10 lakh tablets and 10 lakh capsules per shift. This project will ensure fulfillment of the internal manufacturing requirement as well as offers loan-licencing manufacturing facility for other companies. “The proceeds for the project shall be accrued from internal accruals and institutional funds,” Singh said.

The company at present has presence in therapeutic segments like nutritional, antibiotic, gastro-intestinal and pain management. The Galpha group of companies comprises Galpha, Maxel, Ecogen, Institutional Business and Export Divisions. While Galpha division operates in ethical pharma segment all over India, Maxel Division started its business operation in all eastern and north eastern states, MP, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

The Ecogen division promotes branded generics, whereas Institutional Business Division supplies medicines to hospitals and health centres of government and private institutions such as Indian Railways, ESIS, NTPC, CGHS and Indian Army amongst other. Export is a key focus area, which is expected to contribute significantly to turnover and growth of Galpha laboratories Limited. The introduction of this plant into the fleet of Galpha manufacturing units would strengthen Galpha’s ambition to be a pharma major in coming years.
