Infar
rages a war against infertility through WIM
EPP
News Bureau - Kolkata
The
problems of infertility or the ability to conceive has been rather
neglected as a health problem in South East Asia. Estimates show
that it has increased by around 7 per cent among Indian women in
the last three years. Statistics reveal that more than 1 out of
6 couples suffer from the inability to conceive. These figures are
more alarming and significant in a country like India where children
are accepted as an integral part of the cultural and social fabric.
One of the reasons for the rapid growth of this problem in India,
is lack of proper information about the problem and the remedies
available thereof. To disseminate proper information about the problem,
pharma major Infar India Limited on its part recently launched its
month-long campaign World Infertility Month (WIM) in
Kolkata recently.
Infar
organized a conference in the city recently to mark this occasion.
WIM would be celebrated in over 30 countries worldwide during June
2002. Speaking at the inaugural conference, West Bengal health and
family welfare minister Dr Surya Kanta Misra stressed on the importance
of dissemination of information and creation of awareness among
the masses on various aspects of infertility. With advancement
of science there is no reason why one should feel helpless against
infertility, explained the minister.
